Baitadi : Hundreds of residents, including senior citizens, have benefited from a free eye care and surgical camp conducted in Purchaudi Municipality of Baitadi. The camp, aimed at patients living in remote areas with limited access to regular medical services, provided eye surgeries to 122 individuals.
Held on Friday and Saturday, the camp offered a range of services including eye examinations, distribution of medicines, provision of eyeglasses, and surgical procedures. According to Vinod Kumar Kunwar, Chief of the Municipality’s Health Section, 230 people received free eyeglasses, while 435 individuals were provided with necessary medications.
The municipality reported that more than 700 residents of Purchaudi directly benefited from the camp. Kunwar stated that the initiative was launched considering the challenges faced by rural populations in accessing timely eye care services. He added that most of the patients suffered from age-related vision problems.
Local residents, especially the elderly, expressed happiness after receiving specialist services close to their homes. Jhima Bohora of Ward No. 8 said that she regained her eyesight through the camp.
The camp was jointly organized by Purchaudi Municipality and Charity Health Foundation, with technical support provided by Dhangadhi Eye Hospital, said hospital chief Gajendra Bahadur Chand. Prior to the camp, eye screenings were conducted at the ward level to identify patients requiring surgery, who were then brought to the camp for free treatment, according to Mayor Dipak Bahadur Bam.
Mayor Bam noted that this approach helped ensure the effectiveness of the services and made it easier to reach the targeted population.
